News from your Squash Committee

Hi Squashies

Wow!  What a start to the year – who said squash was a winter sport?

Wet Walls:   Whoop whoop!!  We have hit the “green for go” button and the ventilation unit for Courts 1 and 2 will be installed over the next couple of months.  All things going to plan (touch wood) the unit will be installed and operating in time for the Khandallah Open tournament, early June.  Please note that this is stage one of a three stage implementation, so there’s a long way to go before we get really dry dryness, but hey – it can’t get any worse!

Thanks:  The announcement above is the result of so much hard work by so many people over the years.  Simon Berkett and Howard Smith deserve special mention, but they are not alone.  On behalf of the Squash Committee, thank you ALL for your support.  Recent fundraising efforts have been the Quiz Night (approx $1500 raised), some squash style catering services (approx $500 raised) and some more success with community grants.

Leagues:  The league competition remains popular and if you’re not involved but need more game time – make sure you sign up (let me know by email or write your name on the league sheets at the Club).

Juniors:  If you have “little people” in your life (including the not so little high schoolers) bring them along to Junior club night on a Friday (5pm – 7pm).  Graeme Gibbs (Gibby) our junior convenor is a wonderful asset to the Club and you have to see him in action to believe just how good he is.  Grab your stinky kids and get them on court with Gibby!

Your Squash Committee:  We’re sad to lose Lee Lewis from the Committee – but enormously grateful for her contribution over the past few years.  Many thanks Lee.  We’re always looking for new blood to join the Committee, please let me know if you can be tempted (Tjene?)!

Autumn InnerClub: With just three weeks to go the competition is heating up.  Given how tight the race is, there must be the potential for a “golden point” extra time, or “cook off” – surely?  Remember to change your calendar/dairy to note the finals night has shifted to Thursday 10 April.

Winter InterClub:  Squash Wellington hasn’t yet released details of this for 2014, but it will likely start late April/early May – so keep that in mind when planning you 2014 squash calendar.

Comedy Night – Friday April 11thThe date for the Khandallah Trading Company comedy night is 11 April.  KTSC is the official sponsor of the night – and when I say sponsor – I mean we’re receiving the sponsorship!  The catch is – we sell the tickets.  KTSC will get $10 for every ticket sold. So, book the night, organise the babysitter.  Everyone should have received details of this in a separate email, but let me know if you missed it and I’ll send it on.  Don’t dilly dally, email your mates now and get involved.

That’s it for now. On behalf of your squash committee, thanks for your continued support!
