What a fantastic week of squash! Our 2025 Squash Club Champs brought out some incredible matchups, tight rallies, and great sportsmanship across all divisions.
It was great to see around 30 competitors take part this year — including, in Division 3, some players who were new to competitive play at the Club. Awesome to see fresh faces getting involved and giving it a go! 💪
Women’s Division
The women’s competition kicked off on Monday and built to an exciting final between Sara Howard and Alisa Zhang. After a great game, Alisa came out on top to take the title — congratulations, Alisa!
Junior Division
The Junior Boys’ title went to William Hu**, who defeated Vaughan Vollmer in a strong performance. William is having a standout year — he’s currently ranked as the third most improved player in New Zealand for 2025 so far. Incredible effort, William!
In a fun cross-division match, Alisa also took on William in a battle of the juniors, with William taking the win 3–1.
Men’s Divisions
The Men’s Open saw a full draw of 16 players, making for a brilliant weekend of competition. The final came down to James Thompson and Shane Johnston, with James taking the win to claim the 2025 title.
In Division 2, Scott King triumphed over Dan Cocker in the final, while Division 3 was won by Sam Johnston, the runner up is Tim Mitchell.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part or came along to support — and a special shout-out to Tracy Mears, who did an incredible job running the whole event!
