Celebrating Squash Coaching Excellence: James Thompson’s Impact at KTSC

At Khandallah Tennis & Squash Club, we’re incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding success of our players at this year’s Wellington Squash Awards — and to shine a light on the coach who’s helped them get there.
On Friday night, James Thompson received some well-deserved recognition, being named Development Coach of the Year — a testament to his incredible dedication, passion, and the positive impact he’s had on our players and club community.
This year, three of James Thompson’s players were recognised for their remarkable progress:
Sara Howard – Most Improved Junior Female Player
William Hu – Most Improved Junior Male Player, and currently ranked third most improved nationally.
Alisa Zhang – People's Choice Award
These achievements are a testament not just to the talent and commitment of these young athletes, but also to the steady, positive influence of their coach, James Thompson.
James’ coaching is more than technique and match strategy — it’s about inspiring players to believe in themselves, to persevere, and to bring energy and positivity to every session. His ability to connect with players, set goals that stretch them, and keep training both focused and fun has created a culture of growth and belief across our squash community.
Now, James will be the first to deflect any personal praise, pointing to the incredible effort and dedication of Sara, Alisa, and William. And he’s right — their hard work is what’s taken them this far. But as a Club, we want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to James.
Your passion, leadership, and commitment have a ripple effect — lifting everyone around you. From beginners finding their confidence to competitive players chasing new heights, your energy makes KTSC a better, stronger, and more inspiring place to play. We’re so lucky to have you on our team. 🙌
