Every Friday afternoon, in terms one and four, as the school week winds down and the afternoon sun glows warmly, the courts at Khandallah Tennis & Squash Club come alive in a way that’s hard to describe — but impossible to forget.

Welcome to Community Play Fridays — the most joy-filled hour of the week at KTSC.

💛 What It’s All About

Community Play is simple but special. It’s an open, family-friendly session where kids, parents, and friends can just turn up, grab a racquet, and have fun. You don’t need to be a member or an expert — just keen to give it a go.

With mini-nets, rallies, laughter, and fun games like Chicken Run, Jailbreak and Bonus Ball the atmosphere is buzzing. Our Evolve Tennis coaches are right at the heart of it — skilled at bringing the fun, energy, and encouragement that make every session feel like a celebration of tennis. Younger players love the relaxed, playful vibe, while parents chat court-side, enjoying the sunshine and the social side that makes our Club so much more than just a place to play.

🙌 The Volunteers Who Make It Happen

Behind the fun are our junior interclub parents — the people who give up their Friday afternoons to serve pizza, ice blocks and drinks at the bar. Every team takes a turn on the roster, and it’s this spirit of shared contribution that keeps the programme running strong. It’s one of those “it takes a village” moments — and we’re proud that our village is full of legends!

Why It Matters

Community Play is more than just a social hit — it’s where many kids first fall in love with tennis. It’s fun and friendly — the perfect first taste of the game. Players learn some very basic skills, laugh, and play in a relaxed environment surrounded by friends.

For many, this is where it all begins. Kids who start at Community Play often go on to join Evolve Tennis Coaching programmes, building skills and confidence before progressing to competitive interclub and tournament play. It’s the spark that sets them on their tennis journey — and it all starts right here on a sunny Friday afternoon at KTSC.

🍕 The Perfect Friday Combo

The secret ingredient? Pizza — thanks to our friends at Hell Pizza, proud supporters of the Club and this programme. Each week wraps up with pizza, a simple but powerful tradition that keeps everyone lingering a little longer — chatting, laughing, and soaking up the Friday buzz. As the courts quieten, the conversations spill into the lounge, where new friendships are made and old ones strengthened.

Community Play runs Fridays during terms one and four , from 4:00–5:00pm, and is open to those from about 5-10 though wee ones are welcome to join in too. Come down, have a hit, and feel the magic for yourself — no registration, no pressure, just pure community fun!
